Novatek sponsors writer visits to schools in Hualien to share reading and writing

06 Jan. 2022

Novatek Education Foundation has long sponsored the Hualien SinSiang Inter Community Association in implementing reading programs for Hualien rural area schools, and has organized a reading club at Jiali Elementary School in Hsincheng Township for many years, providing every student with their very own books. This semester, the students read the kid’s book, The Library Arrived by Car by author Wen-Hui Huang. A “Writers Visiting Schools” activity was also held, allowing students to meet with writers for discussion and asking questions about reading and writing.

Ming-Juan Tsai, a volunteer with the SinSiang Inter Community Association, noticed that students need step-by-step guidance when reading. In the first three classes, she interacted with the students by using short essays and word games to explore the joys of reading. In the fourth class, she began to touch on the main topics, and encouraged the students to explore their inner universe through stories and writing, finding their own personal styles.

The principal said that the Morning Reading Time reading promotion program will be arranged every Thursday morning. The Storytelling Mom volunteer will guide children in lower grades who aren’t yet capable enough of falling in love with reading by storytelling with the kids instead, while students in upper-level grades will think about topic themes through reading, making reading promotion more creative and diverse, and encouraging students to look forward to reading every week.
